How to Set Up Low Stock Notifications

Set up low stock notifications in the Client Portal to receive alerts when products need to be replenished.

Written by ShipTop

Low Stock Notifications help you stay ahead of inventory shortages by alerting you when product quantities fall below a defined threshold. By setting up reorder levels and notifications, you can ensure timely replenishment and avoid stockouts.

When a product’s available quantity drops below its Reorder Level, it will be included in your Low Stock Notification report so you can take action early.

Before You Begin

To use Low Stock Notifications effectively, make sure:

  • Each product has a Reorder Level set

  • You have access to the Client Portal Settings

  • You know which team members should receive alerts

Step 1: Navigate to Notification Settings

  1. Log in to your Client Portal

  2. Go to: My Account → Settings → Notifications

Step 2: Enable Low Stock Notifications

  1. Locate the Low Stock notification option

  2. Check the Active box to enable it

  3. Choose the day(s) you want to receive notifications

  4. Select the time the report should be sent

  5. Enter the email address(es) that should receive alerts

  6. Save your changes

Low stock reports are typically sent on a scheduled basis and include all items below their reorder thresholds.

Step 3: Setting Reorder Levels (Required)

Low Stock Notifications rely on Reorder Levels to determine when alerts are triggered.

To set a Reorder Level:

  1. Go to Products in the Client Portal

  2. Select a product

  3. Open the Product Settings

  4. Enter a value in the Reorder Level field

  5. Save changes

How It Works

  • When available inventory drops below the Reorder Level, the product is flagged

  • Flagged products are included in your Low Stock Notification report

  • Notifications are sent based on your configured schedule

This allows you to proactively create purchase orders and maintain inventory levels.

Important Notes

  • Setting a Reorder Level of 0 disables automatic low stock alerts for that SKU

  • Set reorder levels based on sales velocity and lead times

  • Use bulk editing to update reorder levels across multiple SKUs
