Written by Opuda Horsfall

Assembly Work Orders allow you to request that ShipTop combine multiple products or components into a finished kit SKU.

Common examples include:

  • Subscription boxes

  • Product bundles

  • Gift sets

  • Promotional kits

  • Multi-SKU retail packs

Before creating an Assembly Work Order, you must first set up the finished product as an Assembly Kit and define the components required to build it.

Step 1: Create an Assembly Kit SKU

Navigate to: Inventory > Products > Product Listing

Step 2: Enable Assembly Kit

Within the product page:

  1. Click Edit Product Details

  2. Turn on "This is an Assembly SKU used in Work Orders"

  3. Click Update.

Once enabled, the SKU can be configured with component products and used in Assembly Work Orders.

Step 3: Add Kit Components

After enabling Assembly Kit:

  1. Navigate to Assembly SKU Components section within the Product Page

  2. Add each component SKU required to build the kit.

  3. Enter the quantity required for each component.

Note:

  • Before submitting a Work Order, ensure sufficient inventory exists for all kit components.

  • Assembly Work Orders can only be completed when enough component inventory is available to build the requested quantity of kits.

  4. Finished inventory is added to the Assembly Kit SKU.

    • Ready to pick

    • Assembly in progress

    • Completed

Best Practices

Submit Work Orders Early

Assembly Work Orders require warehouse labor and scheduling. Whenever possible, submit requests in advance of your desired completion date.

Ensure Components Are In Stock

Missing component inventory is the most common cause of delays.

Include Detailed Instructions

If your kit requires special assembly, packaging, inserts, labeling, or quality checks, include these instructions in the Work Order notes.
